PAARL: Durban and Paarl were at the heart of thrilling cricket action on Friday, with the Hollywoodbets Pro20 and T20 Challenge matches delivering exciting finishes.

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins Ladies secured a two-wicket victory against Fidelity Titans in the Hollywoodbets Pro20, while the T20 Challenge saw dramatic wins, including a Super Over decider in Paarl and a dominant performance by the Momentum Multiply Titans in Durban.

In the Pro20 match, the Dolphins Ladies successfully chased down 116 to beat the Titans.

Robyn Searle (39), Eliz-Mari Marx (26), and Chanel Ventel (24) contributed to the Titans’ total of 116/8.

The Dolphins Ladies responded with Nondumiso Shangase (33) and Yasmeen Khan (21) leading the charge, reaching 118/8 with four balls to spare.

Following the Pro20 match in Durban, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins Men’s team faced a tough challenge in the T20 Challenge against Titans.

The Centurion-based side set a formidable total of 210/3 in their 20 overs, thanks to an unbeaten 81* from Rivaldo Moonsamy and a powerful 59* from Donovan Ferreira. Lhuan-dré Pretorius also chipped in with a handy 39.

Despite strong efforts from Marques Ackerman (42) and Jon-Jon Smuts (39), the Dolphins were restricted to 159/9, with Roelof van der Merwe taking 4/31, the Titans secured a convincing 51-run victory.

Meanwhile, in Paarl, Goldrush Boland triumphed in a Super Over against the Knights after both teams were tied at 141.

Keith Dudgeon bowled the Super Over for Boland, conceding just one run. Knights’ Dian Forrester was run out by Boland skipper Clyde Fortuin, and Patrick Botha’s attempt for a maximum was caught in the deep by Pieter Malan.

Aaron Phangiso bowled the Super Over for the Knights, dismissing Grant Roelofsen with the first ball, but Fortuin’s composed batting secured the win.

Forrester had earlier impressed with both bat and ball, taking three wickets and scoring an unbeaten 42* to help the Knights level the scores.

In another T20 Challenge match, the Auto Investments North West Dragons secured a home victory at JB Marks Oval against World Sports Betting Western Province.

Duan Jansen (3/34), Kerwin Mungroo, and Wihan Lubbe (two wickets each) restricted the visitors to 142/9, with Edward Moore top-scoring for Western Province with 38.

Lubbe’s half-century (55) and Janneman Malan’s 26 runs anchored the Dragons’ chase, finishing on 146/7 in 19.4 overs to secure the win.

At DP World Wanderers, the DP World Lions delivered a commanding performance against Dafabet Warriors, posting an imposing 239/4.

Wandile Makwethu led with a half-century (55), supported by Mitchell van Buuren (41*), Reeza Hendricks (41), Connor Esterhuizen (40), and Delano Potgieter (36).

In the Lions defence, Junaid Dawood starred with the ball, returning 5/30 to restrict the Warriors to 177/6, despite efforts from Andile Mogakane (41) and Patrick Kruger (34).

Friday’s matches showcased the thrilling action and fierce competition that define both the Hollywoodbets Pro Series and the T20 Challenge. The nail-biting finishes, standout performances, and dramatic moments across the games highlight the depth of talent in South African cricket.

As the season progresses, “Woza Nawe” invites fans to get involved and be part of the action, celebrating the passion, energy, and inclusivity of these competitions. Whether it’s the nail-biting Super Overs or dominant team performances, both tournaments continue to offer an exhilarating experience for all cricket lovers.

Quinton de Kock: With an HPI of 12.70, Quinton de Kock is the 6th most famous South African Cricketer. His biography has been translated into 15 different languages.

Quinton de Kock (born 17 December 1992) is a South African cricketer and former captain of the Proteas in all three formats. He currently plays for South Africa in limited overs cricket, Titans at the domestic level, and Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League. He was named the Cricketer of the Year at Cricket South Africa’s 2017 Annual Awards. An opening batsman and wicket-keeper, de Kock made his domestic debut for the Highveld Lions during the 2012/2013 season. He quickly caught the national selectors’ eye when he starred in a match-winning partnership with Neil McKenzie in the Champions League T20 against the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He also finished fourth on the first-class rankings, despite playing only six of the 10 matches that summer. De Kock made his international debut in the first match of South Africa’s home Twenty20 International series against the touring New Zealanders during the 2012/13 season. He was asked to keep wickets in place of AB de Villiers, who asked to be rested. He has since played regularly for the team at both One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) level. In February 2014, he also made his Test debut for South Africa, playing solely as a batsman. By his 20th ODI match, De Kock had already scored five centuries. He became the fourth player to score three successive one-day centuries and the second player to score four ODI centuries before his 21st birthday. In his 74th ODI, against Sri Lanka on 10 February 2017, he became the fastest player to complete 12 ODI hundreds, bettering Hashim Amla, who had achieved the landmark in 81 innings. Before joining the Titans in 2015, de Kock played domestic cricket for Gauteng and the Highveld Lions. He has also played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Daredevils, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Mumbai Indians. Although he opens the batting in One Day International and T20 cricket, he primarily bats in the middle order in Test cricket. In July 2020, he was named South Africa’s Men’s Cricketer of the Year at Cricket South Africa’s annual awards ceremony. In December 2020, in the series against Sri Lanka, de Kock captained South Africa for the first time in Test cricket.

Still on the subject of cricket superstitions, the player with the most rituals performed during a match is arguably Neil McKenzie of South Africa. Before a game, for example, he would attach his cricket bat to the ceiling with tape. When it’s time for him to bat, he would check all the changing room lights to make sure they were shut off and that the toilet seats were down.
