The post DRAKENSTEIN MUNICIPALITY: GOOD SUPPORTS MUNICIPAL WORKERS IN QUEST FOR TRANSPARENCY appeared first on For Good.

GOOD Statement by Keagen Gertse, GOOD Drakenstein Councillor & Caucus Whip:

The GOOD Party in Drakenstein has officially submitted a complaint to the municipal Local Labour Forum (LLF) in support of municipal employees who have raised serious concerns regarding the transparency and fairness of their task level assessments and related job descriptions.

These assessments are crucial as they directly impact employees’ working conditions and remuneration. Employees have submitted multiple grievances and formally appealed the outcomes of these assessments, requesting documented evidence that their task levels were reviewed through a legitimate and transparent process. To date, their pursuit of clarity has been met with resistance, hostility, and isolation.

The LLF, functioning as a Section 79 Committee, is tasked with mediating matters between employer and employee. It is the appropriate body to intervene in this matter to ensure procedural fairness.

There is precedent for such a case. In the 2016/2017 financial year, a similar situation unfolded in the Stellenbosch Municipality. That case was resolved in favour of the employees, ultimately costing the municipality R20 million. It is essential that the Drakenstein Municipality learns from this and acts proactively to prevent similar consequences, both financial and reputational.

In the interest of fairness and to ensure that employees are justly remunerated according to their job descriptions and designated responsibilities, the GOOD Party believes this matter warrants urgent investigation by the LLF.
Due to an understandable fear of retaliation, the GOOD Party has requested that anonymity be preserved for the complainants.

GOOD believes that every employee should have the right to raise legitimate grievances in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment. No worker should fear retribution for seeking transparency and fairness.

GOOD Political Position: GOOD is a social democratic political party.

Domkop – idiot [dom-kop] Similar to the German “dummkopf” or Dutch “domkop”, this term literally translates to “dumb head” and is a derogatory term used to describe someone who you think is stupid.Example: “Ag! You domkop! You broke my cell phone!”
