SPRINGBOK – The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Steinkopf continues to intensify operations aimed at addressing undocumented migration and ensuring compliance with immigration legislation within the policing precinct.
On Thursday, 17 September 2026, at approximately 10:15, members attached to Steinkopf SAPS conducted a Vehicle Check Point (VCP) along the N7 National Route.
During the operation, members stopped and searched a minibus taxi. Eight foreign nationals were found inside the vehicle and were unable to produce valid documentation authorising their stay in the Republic of South Africa.
The eight individuals were subsequently arrested and detained for further processing and for alleged contravention of the Immigration Act, 2002 (Act No. 13 of 2002).
The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to appear in the Springbok Magistrate’s Court in due course.
The SAPS Namakwa District is appealing to communities not to harbour, conceal or assist undocumented persons to evade law enforcement authorities.
Community members are encouraged to report suspected undocumented persons, suspicious activities or movements to the nearest police station.
Members of the public are further urged to continue working closely with the police and to report criminal activities through the appropriate channels.
