The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) welcomes the findings of the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) regarding the fraudulent transfer of municipal land in Villa Liza, Boksburg, and calls for decisive action against those responsible.
The SIU found that 208 municipal plots, valued at approximately R58 million, were fraudulently transferred to private persons between 2018 and 2022, without council resolutions or legal authorisation.
The Metro received no proceeds from these transactions. Forged tax clearance certificates and powers of attorney were used to effect the transfers.
The matter has been referred to the relevant authorities for prosecution, while the SIU is taking legal steps to set aside the unlawful transfers and recover losses.
These findings are particularly concerning seeing as there are similar problems elsewhere in Ekurhuleni too, such as in Randhart and Alberton where the unlawful sale and occupation of 18 municipal properties is currently under investigation.
It is impossible to exercise proper control over municipal property without detailed information on the number and location of the properties owned by Ekurhuleni.
Although R12 million was earmarked for a land audit spanning three years in the 2025/26 budget, there has been no progress updates on this audit.
The Freedom Front Plus will keep pressing for a comprehensive and transparent audit of all municipal land, especially properties that are vacant or are not properly managed.
Public property belongs to the people of Ekurhuleni and should be safeguarded for their benefit.
Voters should vote for the Freedom Front Plus on 4 November 2026 for less lip service and more actual service and accountability.
Freedom Front Plus Social Welfare: The party supports social welfare programs that benefit vulnerable communities.
