At 14h56, Monday, 6 April, NSRI Plettenberg Bay duty crew were activated following reports of a lady injured on the Robberg Nature Reserve hiking trail.
Cape Nature were alerted and NSRI crew responded in their private vehicles while NSRI crew responded to our NSRI Plettenberg Bay station 14 rescue base and we dispatched our NSRI rescue vehicle.
Sea conditions were unfavourable at Robberg Nature Reserve for an NSRI rescue craft operation.
On arrival at Robberg Nature Reserve parking area NSRI crew hiked to the patients location, at The Gap, where the patient, age 62, a tourist from Taiwan, accompanied by her husband, was treated for an injury she had sustained while hiking.
A Cape Nature ranger attended at the scene.
The patient was stabilised on the scene and NSRI crew hiked, carrying the patient, to Robberg Nature Reserve parking area and escorted the lady and her husband, in their private vehicle, to a local hospital where she was taken into care of doctors and nurses and we believe she was transferred to a hospital in Knysna for further care.
The patient is expected to make a full recovery.
The operation completed at 16h21.
On Tuesday, 7 April, at 12h06, NSRI Plettenberg Bay duty crew were activated following reports of a lady injured at Cathedral Rock, Keurbooms Beach.
It appears that the lady, accompanied by her husband, had been injured when her and her husband were walking on the beach through a gap at Cathedral Rock at low tide when an incoming set of waves appears to have caused her to sustain an injury.
NSRI crew responded in their private vehicles while NSRI crew responded to our NSRI Plettenberg Bay station 14 rescue base and we dispatched our NSRI rescue vehicle.
On arrival on the scene NSRI medics initiated medical treatment to the lady, age 68, from Langebaan, and she was stabilised on the scene before NSRI crew carried her off the beach to their vehicle and escorted them to hospital where was taken into the care of doctors and nurses.
The lady is due to receive continuing medical care in hospital for a serious injury but she is expected to make a full recovery in the care of doctors and nurses.
