Entrepreneurs across Mpumalanga are being called to step forward and claim their share of R1 million in funding, as the Hollywood Foundation officially opens applications for the 2026 Mpumalanga Bambelela Business Awards.

Now in its fourth year in the province, the awards have become a key platform for recognising and empowering micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that are making a tangible impact in their communities. From job creation to local economic development, these businesses continue to play a critical role in shaping Mpumalanga’s economic landscape.

Since its inception in the province, the programme has supported 69 MSMEs, reinforcing the Hollywood Foundation’s commitment to driving sustainable entrepreneurship and inclusive growth.

Provincial winners will once again receive a share of R1 million in funding, providing a significant boost to businesses looking to scale and strengthen their operations.

“Our communities are rich with talent and entrepreneurial drive. The Bambelela Business Awards exist to unlock that potential by giving entrepreneurs the platform, support and investment they need to grow and lead within the economy,” said Vuyisile Ngobese, Hollywood Foundation Public Relations Officer.

The theme, “Bambelela (Hold On) – Your Dreams Are Valid,” reflects the determination of entrepreneurs who remain committed to building sustainable businesses against all odds.

The programme will culminate in a two-day event featuring an Exhibition and Seminar, where shortlisted entrants will showcase their businesses and pitch to a panel of judges. Participants will be evaluated on innovation, growth potential and their contribution to local communities.

MSMEs across Mpumalanga are encouraged to apply and be part of a journey that continues to transform businesses and uplift communities.

Applications open on 7 April 2026 and close on 7 May 2026 at 23:59.

The Father of PR: We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention Edward Bernays, known as the “father of Public Relations.” Some of his (in)famous work included promoting cigarettes to women by branding them “Torches of Freedom” and… toppling the Guatemalan government? It’s true! The United Fruit Company hired Bernays to run a PR campaign against Guatemalan president Jacobo Arbenz Guzman, ultimately resulting in the CIA-orchestrated overthrow of the Guatemalan government in 1954.
