The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) hereby heartily congratulates Mr Geordin Hill-Lewis on his election today as federal leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA).

The Freedom Front Plus remains fully committed to co-operating with political parties that seek to make South Africa better. This includes parties willing to work together to actively oppose the trite and failed ideologically driven policy directions of the ANC, MK and EFF, and that are open to forming coalitions which will constrain, rather than promote, these groupings.

The Freedom Front Plus hopes that, under the leadership of Mr Hill-Lewis, the DA can be counted among such parties.

It is important to note that with its 2026 congress the DA positioned itself in the middle of the South African political spectrum – as a so-called centrist party.

This should not be confused with the DA’s actual position, which is more leftist as a liberal party focused solely on individual rights. The danger of a centrist positioning is that such a party becomes neither fish nor fowl as it tries to be everything to everyone, only to end up as nothing to anyone.

It is also in the middle of the road where one is at risk of being run over.

In contrast, the Freedom Front Plus stands firm as a conservative political party, slightly right of the centre, grounded in Christian and conservative as well as family values, which have repeatedly stood the test of time worldwide – a party that considers South Africa’s diversity and variety to be solid building blocks for a secure future for everyone in the country.

We wish Mr Hill-Lewis every success in his new role.
