The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) in the ANC-controlled Romotshere Moiloa Local Municipality, which serves Zeerust and Groot Marico, lodged an official complaint with the Green Scorpions against the Municipality for the ongoing sewage pollution in Zeerust and surrounds. The pollution is the result of sheer municipal negligence.

This step follows numerous requests by the Freedom Front Plus for the municipal management to intervene and protect the community’s quality of life against the persistent problem.

Due to dilapidated sewerage infrastructure, large quantities of sewage flow down the streets and into the Kareespruit, which flows through town.

In addition to the direct health hazards this poses to the town’s residents, it also affects ground water sources in the vicinity.

This contaminated water typically flows, and especially during the rainy season, into the Klein-Maricopoort Dam. It, therefore, also threatens the local agricultural community that uses the dam water for irrigation.

The Freedom Front Plus will keep a close eye on the investigation to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

It is crucial that Zeerust and Groot Marico residents seize the opportunity on 4 November and use their votes to oust the ANC from local government.
