Political Hijacking Threatens Tshwane’s Administration

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) rejects the disciplinary report against the city manager of the Tshwane Metro, Johann Mettler, because it is not an administrative decision but a political hijacking. The report is the execution of a calculated strategy by the ANC/EFF/ActionSA coalition to remove an honest and independent administrator and replace him with a cadre who can be controlled by the coalition.

The report, led by Obakeng Ramabodu (EFF) and supported by the ANC Deputy Mayor Eugene Modise and ActionSA, is disguised as a disciplinary process.

Mettler is facing blame for disclosing information and lawfully firing 43 employees involved in a violent, months-long illegal strike in 2023. However, these dismissals were crucial to restoring law and order after months of crippled service delivery. Punishing him sets a dangerous precedent that values anarchy over the law.

The Freedom Front Plus emphasizes that the coalition’s actions are ironic and unacceptable: individuals who have themselves been convicted and fined for tender fraud are now dictating the rules and attempting to remove an honourable official because he refused to give in to corruption and the looting of public funds.

This report is an attack on the integrity of Tshwane’s administration.

The Freedom Front Plus will use all available channels and legal steps to fight this purge and defend the metro.

Ultimately, the final decision rests with the residents of Tshwane. On 4 November, voters have the power to halt this power grab by casting their ballots for the Freedom Front Plus – a party that prioritises the interests of residents over the political abuse of power, and stands for a merit-based metro administration.

FF+ Manifesto on Federalism: The party advocates for a federal system of government to decentralize power.
