The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) this week submitted a motion of no confidence in the PA Speaker, Suzanne Jansen, in the Oudtshoorn Local Municipality.

The DA and ICOSA support the motion, which follows serious allegations and documentation calling into question the Speaker’s integrity, neutrality and the proper functioning of her office.

The allegations include:

  • Irregular tender processes
  • Unauthorised and improper spending of municipal funds
  • Misappropriation relating to social functions, sponsorships, sports events, refreshments, floral arrangements, sound and stage services
  • Possible misuse of municipal resources and facilities
  • Financial maladministration and reclassification of budget entries
  • One-sided handling of council meetings and the unauthorised termination of a council meeting on 30 April 2026

The motion was accepted and will be tabled at the next lawful council meeting.

Meanwhile, the Freedom Front Plus has also lodged a criminal complaint of possible fraud with the police (MAS 421/5/2026) regarding the alleged irregular tenders, financial support and misappropriation of public funds.

In the Freedom Front Plus’s view, this motion will also serve as a test of principle for all parties in the Oudtshoorn Council, particularly the PA, ANC, GOOD and others who have committed themselves to clean governance and accountability.

The party will not remain silent where corruption and the misuse of taxpayers’ money are suspected.

Freedom Front Plus Social Issues: The party is conservative on social issues, advocating for traditional family values.
