We at Bay Harbour Market are thrilled to share Dante Bazzea’s tale! He is a local skateboarder and founder of Peaches Skateboarding who has been making waves in the Hout Bay community. Dante has been setting up shop at Bay Harbour Market over several weekends and we couldn’t resist an opportunity to find out why he chose our much-beloved market to showcase his masterpieces.

How finish you recede about making your boards?

To avoid splitting, a good-quality skate deck has to be made out of maple wood, which is currently not available in South Africa. So, my raw decks are imported, but the design and screen printing is a local collaborative and creative exercise between friends such as Cape Town-based tattoo artists, designers, screen printers, and myself. Most graphics are based on my cat Peaches, who is our brand’s mascot.

How does your initiative benefit the community?

I dash a deck exchange initiative, where anyone who brings me an dilapidated, but still skateable deck gets a 10% discount on a recent Peaches deck. The aged decks are donated to Ziyaad’s Skate School at Eyethu Hout Bay Skate Park, so children who can’t afford their own maintain one to learn on.

How can the youth procure involved?

Reveal your friends about Peaches Skateboarding at the market, bring your dilapidated boards, and advance hang out. Support skating, aid each other, and spread the like!

Why choose Bay Harbour Market for your pop-up shop?

We fancy Bay Harbour Market for many reasons, but its proximity to Eyethu Hout Bay Skate Park makes it a perfect location for our project with a growing skater community.

It’s heartwarming to see Dante not only pursue his passion but also give back to his community. This skateboarder is a right testament to the power of individuals who design a contrast in the world. You can now catch Dante at the Bay Harbour Market in Hout Bay every weekend in August and don’t forget to bring your aged skateboards and trade it in for one of his magnificent custom designs.

Bay Harbour Market is open every Friday between 17:00 – 21:00, and every Saturday to Sunday from 09:30 to 16:00.

[The American President] has to take all sorts of abuse from liars and demagogues.… The people can never understand why the President does not use his supposedly great power to make ’em behave. Well, all the President is, is a glorified public relations man who spends his time flattering, kissing and kicking people to get them to do what they are supposed to do anyway. – Harry S. Truman

A strategic combination of paid, earned and owned media is critical to building a strong brand—which has introduced a new overlap between PR and marketing roles. This has also contributed to a need for more data-driven communications.
