LaMuse Classic 2024 Comes To Muizenberg

This weekend, the iconic shores of Surfers Corner, Muizenberg, will come alive as we celebrate Women’s Day with the much-anticipated LaMuse Classic, proudly supported by the Department of Arts and Culture, Surfing South Africa, and The Store.

Seventh Anniversary

This year, we mark the seventh anniversary of this extraordinary ‘for women, by women’ gathering that beautifully encapsulates the spirit of the ocean. With over 120 entrants, this three-day women’s longboarding event is the largest in its eight-year history, making it the biggest women’s longboard surfing event in Africa.

Whether you’re supporting your loved ones in the mother-daughter heat, challenging your personal limits in the novice division, or showcasing your longboarding finesse in any of the other eight divisions, there’s a place for everyone at LaMuse Classic.

LaMuse Classic 2024 is far more than a surfing competition; it is a joyous celebration of the feminine side of the sport. Women of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities come together to embrace the art of dancing on waves. This all-inclusive event provides a nurturing, judgment-free space where women can connect, play, and experience the true essence of surfing.

We are excited to include an adaptive division in partnership with the Roxy Davis Foundation for the first year. This non-profit organisation focuses on understanding, broadening, connecting, educating, and sharing evidence-based best practice principles. The Foundation aims to enhance physical and mental well-being by delivering ongoing life-changing ocean-based experiences.

LaMuse Classic 2024 actively engages with children from various development organisations, such as the 9Miles Project and SurfPop, fostering a love for competitive surfing. These incredible programs aim to give children

from South African townships the best chance at living life to the fullest: active, healthy and in touch with nature, who can access sustainable employment after school to truly lift themselves out of poverty and positively impact their community.

Fun, Friendly and easy-going

Charmaine Adams and Cheree Thomson, the contest organisers, highlight the central theme of inclusiveness: “We aim to introduce competitive women’s surfing in a fun, friendly, and easy-going environment, involving women in all aspects of the event.” True to this vision, women compete and take on all essential roles as judges, commentators, contest directors, event organisers, and more. With incredible goodie bags and fabulous prizes for all, LaMuse Classic ensures an unforgettable experience.

While fun is at the heart of the LaMuse Classic 2024, the event prioritises environmental sustainability and community support. Partnering with Ocean Pledge, we ensure that we are entirely single-use plastic-free. Participants and spectators are encouraged to bring their reusable water bottles, with a refill station available to minimise plastic waste. Recycling services will also be in place to divert as much waste as possible from landfills.

Swell Forecast

The swell forecast for the weekend looks incredible. With offshore winds and a nice and contestable three to four feet throughout, along with a few bigger sets here and there, it’s going to be pumping!
