The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) found only 14 working streetlights out of a total of 109 along an important 4,5 km thoroughfare from Jean Avenue southwards to Lenchen Avenue and the Lifestyle Centre in Centurion.

This thoroughfare serves as a main route for the residents of four neighbourhoods, namely Clubview, Hennopspark, Bronberrik and the Hennopspark industrial area.

This neglected route carries high traffic volumes and connects key locations such as Hennopspark Primary School, two filling stations (that fortunately provide light), a gym and a chain store.

While ActionSA boasts about repairing thousands of streetlights in the Tshwane Metro, this area remains shrouded in darkness and, consequently, unsafe.

Those employed by the businesses along the route are understandably fearful to walk home or to the taxi ranks in the dark.

The security risk is exacerbated by the nearby informal settlement, vagrants along the Hennops River and the industrial area.

The Freedom Front Plus challenges ActionSA’s Mayor, Dr Nasiphi Moya, to table a concrete plan within 14 days for repairing all 109 streetlights, along with a timeline for implementation.

The Metro cannot ignore the route’s strategic significance and residents’ safety, especially after recent incidents such as the armed robbery at a local store on 20 August 2025.

The Freedom Front Plus urges the community to band together and pressure the Tshwane Metro to take action at once.

Tshwane’s residents deserve safe, well-lit streets – not a nightmare of darkness and crime.

The Freedom Front Plus will keep monitoring the situation and demand accountability until the matter is resolved.
