Relive the magic of the movies this month, as Ster-Kinekor brings back some classic titles as part of its Throwback Cinema promotion. With all tickets at only R50 each, the new line-up offers movie lovers an invitation to revisit some favourite movie moments or experience these iconic films for the first time as the filmmakers intended – on the big screen.

During November, enjoy a wave of cinematic nostalgia exclusively at select Ster-Kinekor sites nationwide. The popular Throwback Cinema initiative continues to offer moviegoers the ultimate trip down memory lane, screening beloved classics, iconic rom-coms, and cult favourites exactly as they were made to be seen.

Even better, fans can enjoy these timeless masterpieces at the unbeatable throwback price of just R50 per ticket. So, whether you are looking to revisit an old favourite or introduce a classic to a new generation, Ster-Kinekor’s November line-up promises unmatched big-screen entertainment.

In anticipation of the release of the next title in the dystopian sci-fi Hunger Games franchise, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, on 20 November at Ster-Kinekor cinemas nationally – including in IMAX and APEX cinemas, fans have the chance to relive the 2023 film, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. The film screens at select cinemas nationally until 12 November.

64 years before he becomes the tyrannical president of Panem, Coriolanus Snow sees a chance for a change in fortunes when he mentors Lucy Gray Baird, the female tribute from District 12, during the 10th Hunger Games. Directed by Francis Lawrence, the film’s cast includes Rachel Zegler, Tom Blyth and Viola Davis.

On Friday 13 November, movie lovers are invited to dive into a beloved 1980s classic that blends romance, fantasy, and comedy. Splash follows the story of a hardworking New Yorker who falls head-over-heels in love with a mysterious woman, the girl of his dreams. There’s one big complication though: he’s fallen hook, line and sinker for a mermaid who rescued him from drowning as a child. Directed by Ron Howard, the film stars Tom Hanks, Daryl Hannah, John Candy, and Eugene Levy.

The Craft (first screened in 1996) releases on Friday 20 November for two weeks, just in time for those craving a bit of cult-classic supernatural edge. The film follows a newcomer at a Catholic school who falls in with a trio of outcast teenage girls. Together, they begin practicing witchcraft, conjuring spells and curses against those who have wronged them – be they teachers, rivals or meddlesome parents – only to discover that dark magic also carries dangerous consequences. Directed by Andrew Fleming, the film stars Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell, and Rachel True.

Ster-Kinekor’s Throwback Cinema initiative continues to celebrate the unique power of the big screen, making cinema access easier than ever.

“The ticket price set at R50 makes watching these great return titles a must-see for all movie lovers – either as repeat viewing or the opportunity to watch them for the first time as the directors made them to be seen – on the big screen,” says Lynne Wylie, chief marketing officer of Ster-Kinekor.

Don’t miss the chance to experience these classic films in the cinema. Bookings for all the November Throwback Cinema titles are now open.
