GOOD Statement by Thyrone Williams, GOOD Saldanha Bay Councillor and West Coast Regional Organiser:
This week, residents of Stompneus Bay in the Saldanha Bay Municipality took to the streets to voice their frustration over yet another broken promise, the promise of housing that has yet to materialise.
For years, the community has been told that a housing project is on the way. Five years ago, Oceana, a private company operating in the area, donated a piece of land to support this development. But to date, not a single municipal service has been installed, and no progress has been made.
When the GOOD Party raised this issue in Council, I was asked to withdraw my statement on the grounds that it was “untrue.” I must respectfully, but firmly, reject that request.
The facts are clear:
- The land was donated by Oceana, not the municipality.
- The City has provided no infrastructure or service delivery to advance the housing project.
These are not opinions, they are verifiable realities. Realities that continue to impact the lives of residents who were promised dignity and development, but have instead been met with silence and neglect.
GOOD will continue to stand with the people of Stompneus Bay in demanding accountability, transparency, and action.
