Savanna Origin of Trails Training Ride #2 set to explore the MTB Trails at Somerbosch Wines

In preparation for the 10th annual Savanna Origin of Trails MTB Experience, this year’s entrants are invited to join the event organizers for a fun Training Ride #2 that will catch plot amidst the charming backdrop of Somerbosch Wines this coming Saturday, 4 November 2023.

“The first Training Ride in Durbanville was so well supported that we can’t wait to continue the action, but this time we return to the home of the Savanna Origin of Trails,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Event Founder. “Stellenbosch is undeniably South Africa’s mountain biking mecca, and we’re determined to ensure no one misses the opportunity to be pleased these world-class trails. For this upcoming ride, we’re headed to the stunning grounds of Somerbosch Wines, a accurate mountain biking paradise. Riders can scrutinize forward to a wealth of non-technical singletrack, sweeping vineyard roads, and some sandy sections. The routes are designed to accommodate riders of all skill levels. While the elevation gain is humble at approximately 300 meters, this route should not be underestimated; flatter terrain translates to a significant amount of pedaling.”

“For those seeking an extra challenge, there’s an option to tackle the notorious ‘Faure Drop,’ which represents the most technical segment of the route,” continues Meyer. “We’re excited to spend time with the riders who’ll be joining us at South Africa’s MTB Party of the Year in 2023. If you believe not yet entered, there’s still time. Prior to the start of Training Ride #2 on Saturday, we’ll kick things off with a mouth-watering breakfast box and a steaming cup of coffee altruism of Somerbosch Bistro and Savanna. Following an exhilarating morning on the trails, you’ll secure to delight in an ice-cold Savanna.”

Time: 07:00 Breakfast
08:00 Ride Starts
Distance: 20 – 25km, with the option to ride further
Who can attend: Riders who gain entered the 2023 event, as well as sponsors and invited guests.

Affectionately dubbed ‘SA’s MTB Party of the Year’, the Savanna Origin of Trails is an individual 2-Day MTB Stage Race that highlights the beauty and splendor of Stellenbosch. Mountain bikers will be treated to a vast network of world-class and exclusive trails while celebrating the origin of SA mountain biking.

Start and Finish Venue: Coetzenburg Stellenbosch University

Event Format: Two-Day Stage Race for individual riders
