The inaugural Absa RACE YOUR CITY TSHWANE 10K is set to see some incredible racing on Sunday 27 August 2023 as the next generation of athletes, Nicholas Seoposengwe and Kabelo Seboko, both running in the colours of Boxer Athletics Club, enter the fray.
Nicholas proved that he should not be underestimated when he claimed victory at the Absa SPRINT YOUR CITY JOBURG 10K in 2022, while Kabelo became the latest addition to the illustrious sub-28-minute club when he claimed gold at the Absa RUSH YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K early in July.
Seboko’s victory at the Absa RACE YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K saw him become only the 4th South African athlete to crash the 28 minute effect in the last two years when he crossed the line in 27:56, taking a whopping 35 seconds off his previous best 10k time of 28:31. In the process he dragged Thabang Mosiako to his second sub 28 minute time in four months and also former SA 10km Record Holder, Stephen Mokoka to his first ever sub 28 minute race on South African soil.
“It’s an astonishing feeling to fracture 28 minutes. Sometimes it still shocks me to mediate that I achieved that,” said Seboko. “The result has built my confidence and self-belief. I want to hold performing to maintain my confidence.”
Seboko credits his breakthrough to following training that suited him, which kept him injury free and allowed him to design steady pace. The talented athlete has huge plans for the series, as he turns his attention to the Absa RUSH YOUR CITY TSHWANE 10K.
“I am excited to race the Absa RACE YOUR CITY TSHWANE 10K. It’s a huge event for me and a very well organized one. I am preparing well for it,” confirms Seboko. “I will approach the race with confidence but with control. I aim to be prepared for anything and to respond to any race situation in the best way that I can.”
The addition of the latest sub-28-minute 10k athlete to the Absa SPRINT YOUR CITY TSHWANE 10K has brought an added element to the race. But neither Seboko, nor Precious Mashele (who has also already confirmed his entry) can sit back and seize it easy as the field is beginning to deepen. In addition to the 22-year-old Nicholas Seoposengwe, the impressive field will also include stalwarts Elroy Gelant and Gladwin Mzazi. Gelant has an affinity and liking for the tougher courses.
