The Tshwane Metro has to take decisive action to make the Tjaart van Vuuren municipal swimming pool in Villieria functional and accessible again as soon as possible.
The swimming pool has been closed for the past three weeks, because the Metro’s chlorine supplier failed to deliver the necessary chemicals.
The closure comes at the most inconvenient time for residents, summer temperatures are soaring and it is the middle of swimming season.
Residents, especially children and families, are denied access to a safe, affordable place to cool off and relax.
Local schools that do not have their own swimming pools normally use this facility for swimming lessons and sport. The closure deprives learners of the opportunity to participate in important physical activity and the community of a public cooling-off spot.
The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) calls on the Tshwane Metro to accept responsibility for the closure of the Tjaart van Vuuren swimming pool. The current chlorine supplier that failed to deliver should be held accountable, while a reliable and competent service provider should be appointed immediately.
Residents deserve access to this essential public facility, especially during the current summer heat.
