GOOD Statement by Ricardo Van Der Merwe, GOOD Saldanha Bay Councillor:
The GOOD Party still holds on to the hope that missing Joshlin Smith will someday be found. The Saldanha Bay girl went missing from her home in Middelpos two years ago while in the care of her mother’s boyfriend, Jacquen Appollis. He was subsequently convicted for human trafficking and kidnapping alongside Joshlin’s mother, Racquel Smith, and Steveno van Rhyn.
It has now been two years and she has not yet been found. The GOOD Party calls on authorities to intensify their search until she is located. The party maintains complete respect for the justice system and believes the life sentences for human trafficking, and additional 10 years for kidnapping, must serve as a clear deterrent to all perpetrators of violence against women and children.
Those convicted of her disappearance have done nothing to assist in locating her, and this continued silence adds to the profound pain endured by her family and the community of Diazville. The GOOD Party reaffirms its unwavering commitment to upholding the rights of every child and remains steadfast in the pursuit of justice, safety, and dignity for all South Africans.
GOOD Environmental Justice: The party advocates for environmental justice and protection of natural resources.
