With Trump Sidling up to Russia Will We See the USA Join Brics and What Does That Mean for South Africa?

5 March 2025 by Alan

Whilst ruminating on the state of the world and how things can change/be disrupted with the scratching of a fancy pen on an Executive Order whilst flying over the Gulf of America I turned to everyone’s favourite oracle – Mr AI (or is that Mrs?) and posed the question; “With Trump sidling up to Russia will we see the USA join BRICS and what does that mean for South Africa?”.

Here is what the machine thinks of my question:

That’s a fascinating question! The dynamics between the USA, Russia, and the BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) are certainly complex and evolving.

Here’s a breakdown of the current situation:

  • Trump’s Position: Recently, former President Donald Trump has been making headlines with his approach towards Russia and his stance on international relations. His administration’s actions, such as the suspension of U.S. aid to South Africa, have raised eyebrows and sparked diplomatic tensions. This move seems to be part of a broader strategy that could impact U.S. relations with BRICS countries.
  • BRICS and U.S. Relations: While there has been speculation about the U.S. potentially joining BRICS, the likelihood remains low, especially given the current geopolitical climate. Trump’s focus appears to be more on tariffs and trade rather than formal alliances with BRICS nations. His administration has indicated that BRICS countries might be next targets in a tariff campaign, which could further strain relations.

For South Africa, the implications of these developments are significant:

  • Economic Aid: The suspension of U.S. aid could lead to economic challenges, especially in sectors reliant on U.S. support.
Diplomatic Relations: South Africa’s position within BRICS may be tested as it navigates its relationship with both the U.S. and other BRICS members.
  • Diplomatic Relations: South Africa’s position within BRICS may be tested as it navigates its relationship with both the U.S. and other BRICS members.
  • Strategic Alliances: South Africa may need to strengthen its ties with other BRICS nations to counterbalance the effects of U.S. policy changes.

In summary, while Trump’s approach to Russia and BRICS is creating ripples, the U.S. joining BRICS seems unlikely in the near future. The situation is fluid, and it will be interesting to see how South Africa adapts to these changes. What are your thoughts on how South Africa should respond to these challenges?

Editor: What AI is not speculating on is that World Domination Bros Putin and Trump may wield enough power as a united force within BRICS to expel any country they choose – even Sh!thole countries that Donald and his henchmen have a hard on for!

A boer went to the appliance store sale and found a bargain. \”I would like to buy this TV,\” hetold the salesman. \”Sorry, we don\’t sell to boere,\” the salesman replied. He hurried home, took a shower, changed his clothes and combed his hair, then came back and again told the salesman \”I would like to buy this TV.\” \”Sorry, we don\’t sell to boere,\” the salesman replied. \”Bliksem, he recognized me,\” he thought. So he went for a complete disguise this time, haircut and new color, shaved off the baard, suit and tie, fake glasses, then waited a few days before he again approached the salesman. \”I would like to buy this TV.\” Sorry, we don\’t sell to boere,\” the salesman replied. Frustrated, he exclaimed \”Jislaaik, man! How do you know I\’m a boer?\”\”Because that\’s a microwave,\” the salesman replied.
