Showers are one of the most water-intensive activities in the home, but there are many ways to reduce your water usage.

Here are some tips on how to save water in the shower:

  1. Install a low-flow showerhead: Replace old showerheads with low-flow models. Look for showerheads with the Water Sense label.
  2. Take shorter showers: Consider reducing your showering by one to two minutes, which can save up to eighteen litres of water per day.
  3. Turn off the water while soaping up: Turn off the shower while soaping up, shampooing, or conditioning to save up to two gallons per minute.
  4. Use a shower timer: Install a shower timer or use a shower timer app to keep yourself on track.
  5. Use shower heads with a shut-off valve: Install a showerhead with a built-in shut-off valve. Allowing you to turn off the water while soaping up or conditioning.
  6. Use warm water instead of hot water: Using warm water instead of hot water can save energy and water.
  7. Fix leaks: Check your showerheads and taps for leaks and attend to them immediately if there is a leakage.
  8. Use a showerhead with multiple flow settings: Install a showerhead with multiple flow settings to adjust water flow based on your needs.
  9. Use a rain showerhead with a flow restrictor: Install a rain showerhead with a built-in flow restrictor to maintain water pressure while reducing flow.
  10. Monitor your water usage: Regularly check your water meter to detect hidden leaks or water-wasting habits.

By implementing these simple tips, you will significantly reduce your shower’s water consumption, contributing to a more sustainable future.
