  • Gonzo Instrumental released ‘SA’NGOMA METAL:An Instrumental Album’ consisting of 18 tracks on the 21st January 2024.
  • The project is the Continuation of the Lost Tape collection of assembled projects that just never got released. Most of them were created around 2011-2016.

Teboho Sekete aka Gonzo Instrumental (producer name) aka Tebu Vision(rap name) was born and raised in KwaMagxaki, Gqeberha.

You might be wondering why this title for the album well here is the break down of it from the Gonzo Instrumental himself ” To clear things I am not a Sangoma nor am I a member of ubuNgoma. Sangoma Metal is symbolic of who I am and how I was raised and educated. SANGOMA, for me, represents being african and what that means to me. Metal represent all that is Western, the culture and being educated at white school. And how these two dichotomies exists, conflict and sometimes work in unison within the person I have become. And lastly its a play on words, my lyricist background influenced this. SA(the country of my origin, Mzantsi) Ngoma(the song the sound within me) hence SA’NGOMA( the south african song, my south african song)”.

The artist descriped how the album came about between 2011 and 2016 he had this to say ”when I was traveling alot between Johannesburg and Gqeberha. He discovered the Joburg art scene and became part of the rise of the Gqeberha art scene that inspired him to showcase his art as a beat maker and producer. There were a couple of people involved intentionally, unintentional, directly and indirectly. Siyanda Madikane assisted in producing ‘My FuFu Crib’, Thuso Leseli is the voice on ‘PowerBallTripThrilla’ and Evl Jon Brophy and featured on ‘Bong Dust and Green Faries’. Mikhail Jordan aka Miki San Tzu provided raps on the track ‘Ebony Towers’; which apparently, was recorded at at a hotel in Brazil during the 2014 soccer world cup. This album was away him not to just releasing music but also catalog and showcase myself a producer, beat-maker and rapper/MC”.

The project was released January 21, 2021 but infact was made prorior to that between 2011 and 2016. With the olderst tracks being ‘Shake Pigment Culture’ and’Coke in the Kalahari’ recorded around 2011 which started the whole compilation while the latest being ‘Grunge Fantasy'(2015/2016).

When asked about the idea behind the release of this project he had this to say “The original idea was to showcase my art( music creation) with an exhibition curated by my visual artist friend Evl Jon Brophy, that never manifested itself. The most common and recent reason was cataloging my music, marketing my music and introducing myself as a beat maker and Producer”.

The album is available online at Bandcamp Link to project: https://feallusb.bandcamp.com/album/sangoma-metal-an-instrumental-album
