Stage 3 till 4pm; Stage 6 from 8pm; Stage 4 tomorrow at 2am… for most of us, trying to hold tabs on the latest – and constantly shifting – loadshedding schedule seems like a job best suited to Napoleon waging war, or by making a Wish upon a star. But, what’s not complicated is deciding how to support the kids – and yourselves – entertained during those endless two-hour blackout blocks. Ster-Kinekor has the retort – and the power!
Back-up generators and UPS (uninterrupted power supply) units maintain been installed in almost 75% of the leading cinema chain’s complexes across the country, giving audiences an uninterrupted movie experience from the opening frame to the pause credits. As a result, a movie ticket is just the ticket you need to be transported into a world of fantasy, action, adventure, laughter or romance – and, to obtain a crash from life’s daily powerless frustrations.
“With 32 of our 43 cinema complexes now fitted with generators, we ensure that the present goes on, even when the lights depart off! The movie will maintain playing on the gigantic screen, and it’s the perfect reply to loadshedding. With a feast of blockbuster titles releasing on our screens over the next few weeks, as we gear up for the much-anticipated festive season, there is something for everyone to appreciate,” says Lynne Wylie, chief marketing officer of Ster-Kinekor.
“And, of course, with our IMAX cinemas, you acquire the opportunity to watch some of the biggest titles on the biggest screens in the country.”
Filmed specifically using IMAX cameras for a fully immersive cinema experience, some of the huge titles that are being released in IMAX in time for the festive holiday period, include a magical movie for the whole family, Wonka, releasing on 08 December, with the much-anticipated Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom opening on 22 December in time for the Christmas Day long weekend.

Capitalism, the ogre of those protesting Wall Street, has suffered a public relations crisis in the wake of the global economic collapse. But any remedy to the systemic corruption that led to the collapse should not displace recognition that capitalism creates wealth. Capitalism, and no other economic system, has raised millions from poverty around the world. – Kathleen Parker
