The Awareness Company, founded by Priaash Ramadeen, Shazia Vawda, and Estelle Lubbe, brings together nearly six decades of collective experience in fields ranging from border control and defense to municipal processes and conservation. Their situational awareness software has been instrumental in protecting over 10,000 rhinos, utilized by more than 200 organizations worldwide.
Ramadeen highlights the critical role of data in addressing real-world challenges: “We identified a gap in the market across various sectors like defense, government, policing, and asset management—all seeking enhanced situational awareness. This led us to establish The Awareness Company in 2018.”
Drawing on their expertise, they developed HYDRA—a climate-tech software providing instant data creation and AI-driven insights for sustainability across energy, water, agriculture, buildings, and infrastructure sectors. Clients such as Eskom and Old Mutual have already benefited from HYDRA’s cost savings and operational efficiencies.
Despite early challenges and a cautious approach, the company pivoted to focus on sustainability in early 2023, supported by Aions Creative Technology and its founder Mitchan Adams. This partnership has facilitated growth, investment, and the enhancement of HYDRA’s features to cater to a broader customer base.
Looking ahead, The Awareness Company aims for global expansion, including establishing a wider presence in Africa and extending into the EU. Their immediate marketing strategy targets South African listed companies and unlisted corporates, helping them adopt a holistic approach to the golden triangle of sustainability – finance, operations and impact.
Ramadeen emphasizes their technology’s role in achieving sustainability goals: “You can’t wait until regulations force you to act. It’s about starting now, measuring, monitoring, and using insights to drive meaningful change for impact and for your bottom line.” Their platform, with 1.5 billion data points and a user-friendly interface, stands poised to support these efforts.
